· Grades K-2 met today with a little over 60 students attending. We weeded both gardens and around the trees, planted sweet corn, watered
the flowers, and talked about germinating seeds. Each student took some popcorn seeds home along with a plastic baggie and paper towel to try to germinate them at home.
· We were so excited to see some of the seeds planted last week peeking through the soil. The gardens look amazing! We are waiting on some
dirt to fill the raised beds. If you know of some good soil we could have, please let me know. Once the beds are filled, we will plant some herbs and other goodies!
· Next Tuesday, 4th and 5th grades will meet in the cafeteria immediately after school. We have received donations for snacks, so we will serve a quick snack and then break into several groups. Two groups will be weeding in the gardens and another group will be watering and picking up trash around the garden area.
· Instead of having the students come out to you at the end of garden club, we ask that you come in to pick them up. If your child is not picked up by 4:10, we will send them to aftercare.
· Our wish list keeps evolving – check it out on the website!
· We are running low on snacks and appreciate donations!
· I could use parent help at the meetings. If you have some extra time to donate and have completed the school background check, please join us in the cafeteria at 3:00 on Tuesday!
· Our schedule for the end of the year is as follows:
o May 28 – Grades 4-5
o June 4 – ALL GRADES for an end of the year celebration
o Tuesdays this summer 9-10 for grades K-2
o Thursdays this summer 9-10 for grades 3-5

· Grades K-2 met today with a little over 60 students attending. We talked about the difference between perennials and annuals, planted some mums around the big tree by the garden, started our gazing ball project, and planted some Mother’s Day seeds.
· We still need to have both areas tilled. Adam Peercy is picking up the tiller this week and my husband and I will till the garden before next
Tuesday’s meeting. Our seeds that we planted at the 1st meeting are getting big! The kids love to be able to watch their plant begin to peek through the soil!
· Next Tuesday, 3rd grade will meet in the cafeteria immediately after school. We have received donations for snacks, so we will serve a quick snack and then break into two groups. One group will be planting in the garden outside the teacher’s lounge and the second group will be planting in the garden outside the kindergarten rooms. We will end at 3:15 (remember Tuesday is an early-release).
· Instead of having the students come out to you at the end of garden club, we ask that you come in to pick them up. We will have a sign-out sheet for you to sign before taking your child home. If your child is not picked up by 3:25, we will send them to aftercare.

Our first meeting today was a huge success! We
planted seeds and placed them in our grow lab so they will be ready to put in
the ground after Mother’s Day!
We have been approved to move
the garden to the courtyard outside the double doors by the cafeteria and
teacher’s lounge. We thought we were going to need parent help to get the
ground ready on Saturday, but our head maintenance supervisor offered to do it
for us! Yay Adam Peercy!
Next Tuesday is an early release day. We will
still have the garden club meeting right after school, but we will end at 3:45
instead of 4:30. Please let me know if your child needs to go to aftercare
following the meeting!
Our website is ready - http://lapelgardenclub.weebly.com/
I have attached an information sheet for me to use in case of an emergency. If
you would like to be added to our Facebook garden club page, please let me know
how I can find you on Facebook and I will get you added!
I
have also attached our wish list - please let me know if you can
help!
I would love for the kids to have a small snack at
the beginning of each meeting. Please let me know if you can help
donate!
I could use parent help at the meetings. If you have some extra
time to donate and have completed the school background check, please join us in
Mrs. Smith’s classroom at 3:00 on Tuesdays!
